What is Android XR?
To begin with, Android XR is the driving force behind the Samsung Galaxy XR headset. This operating system seamlessly combines the helpfulness of Gemini AI with environmental awareness. Consequently, you can switch between being fully immersed in a virtual world and staying present in your real surroundings without effort.
Furthermore, navigation feels intuitive and easy. You can use your voice, hands, and even your eyes to control your experience. Because it’s built on Android, you also have access to your favorite apps from Google Play, all on an infinite screen.
An Infinite Screen for Your Apps
With the Galaxy XR, you gain a massive, private screen to explore your apps. Not only can you access Google apps that have been reimagined for XR, but you can also enjoy brand new experiences and millions of existing mobile apps.
Here’s what you can do:
- Watch and Relax: For entertainment, you can stream content from services like HBO Max and Peacock. You can quickly turn any room into your own private theater using Google TV on a huge, resizable screen. Additionally, you can dive into YouTube’s immersive 180- and 360-degree VR content library.
- Relive Your Memories: When you want to look back, Google Photos can convert your 2D photos and videos into 3D. This feature lets you step back into your favorite memories in an entirely new way.
- Play Immersive Games: If gaming is your focus, enjoy titles from top studios like Owlchemy Labs and Resolution Games, all designed for an XR environment.
Gemini AI: Your Smart Assistant
Equally important, the integration of Gemini makes the Galaxy XR truly unique. On the Galaxy XR headset, Gemini Live understands what you are seeing and doing in real time. Therefore, it’s easier than ever to get help or take action across your apps—just by having a conversation.
For example, while watching basketball highlights, you can simply ask about a player’s stats. Gemini recognizes what’s on screen and provides the information instantly. Moreover, you can use Circle to Search on virtual objects or real-world items in your room, making it quick to get web information without breaking your flow.
Create Your Ultimate Workspace
The Galaxy XR also lets you design a workspace that fits your needs. You can open several apps, like your browser and documents, at any size. These can be arranged all around you in a completely private, digital space. For instance, picture organizing your Chrome tabs in an arc, or taking a Google Meet call where you can expand video tiles for a clearer view of participants’ expressions.
Additionally, Gemini acts as a creative partner. As you brainstorm ideas, the AI bases suggestions on what you’re viewing. If your workspace gets too cluttered, just ask Gemini to organize your windows, resulting in a neat and tidy layout instantly.
Explore Your World from Home
With Google Maps on Android XR, exploring the world becomes even more exciting. You can walk the streets of Tokyo before a trip or soar over the Grand Canyon, all from your living room. While you explore famous landmarks like the Colosseum, you can ask Gemini, “What’s the story behind this building?” and receive immediate answers. Thus, discovery and travel planning become more dynamic and interactive.
How to Get the Galaxy XR
The Galaxy XR is available starting today, offering a new frontier in immersive technology. You can purchase it on Samsung.com or visit Samsung Experience stores in the US and Korea. To make the offer even more attractive, Samsung is currently providing an Explorer Pack for a limited time. This bundle includes 12 months of Google AI Pro, YouTube Premium, Google Play Pass, and other exclusive offers.
In conclusion, the launch of the Galaxy XR headset marks a new chapter for immersive technology. It combines the versatility of Android with the intelligence of Gemini, resulting in an experience that is both powerful and remarkably easy to use.
