Google recently posted an opening for a Strategic Partner Development Manager on its International Pixel Product Partnerships team. This role sits at the center of Google’s mobile ecosystem strategy. In this article, we break down what the job involves, how much it pays, what qualifications Google prefers, and what the daily work looks like.
Overview of the Role
The Google Pixel Business Development team builds strategic partnerships across the mobile ecosystem. In doing so, the team drives product innovation, shapes feature strategy, and manages complex agreements. It also nurtures long-term relationships with top app developers and technology providers.
In this position, you act as the International Business Development Manager for Pixel partnerships. Specifically, you build relationships with product and engineering teams across key regions. Beyond that, you create and execute partnerships with critical partners across the US and Japan.
You serve as the primary negotiator on partner deals that bring product features to Pixel devices. On top of that, you manage relationships with important regional partners. As a result, you become the subject matter expert on Pixel’s strategic deals, and you work closely with cross-functional teams to solve business and technical problems.
One key requirement is fluency in both Japanese and English. On one hand, you need professional Japanese skills to lead Japan-based partnerships. On the other hand, you need strong English to align with global headquarters. Together, these skills support a role that blends senior-level business development, partner management, executive alignment, and daily execution.
Additionally, expect to travel internationally and domestically at least 25% of the time. Google lists Mountain View, CA, and San Francisco, CA, as the preferred work locations.
Salary
Google offers a competitive pay package for this role. Specifically, the base salary ranges from $140,000 to $204,000 USD. On top of the base, the company adds a 15% bonus target, along with equity and benefits.
Furthermore, Google determines individual pay based on job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. It’s also worth noting that Alphabet Inc. grants equity separately and at its own discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
Google looks for candidates who bring both technical knowledge and strong analytical skills. More specifically, the company prefers applicants who have:
- Technical aptitude and a deep understanding of the Mobile OEM industry, the Android ecosystem, or app partnerships.
- Exceptional quantitative analytical skills, as well as the ability to draw strategic conclusions from a data-focused approach.
- A proven track record of collaborating with cross-functional teams, C-level executives, and senior management.
- Experience in business development, corporate development, or tech and telecom management consulting. In particular, Google values people who have led executive-level strategy and managed complex deals.
- The ability to manage several high-priority projects at once, even under tight deadlines.
In addition to all of the above, the role calls for dual fluency in Japanese and English. This combination helps you lead Japan-based partnerships while staying aligned with global teams.
Key Responsibilities
The person in this role takes on a wide range of duties. Here is a closer look at the main ones:
- Manage US and Japan partnerships. You lead and grow high-impact partnerships with key partners. These include local developers, technology providers, marquee brands, and telecom players.
- Negotiate complex deals. You structure and negotiate first-of-kind deals with senior executives. From there, you also guide contracts through their full life cycle.
