Today, Instagram announced big changes to its platform – a Reels tab and a Shop tab.

The short-form video app’s hot streak has continued, with its user base having tripled since 2018, TechCrunch reported. Further, its growing advertising business and sales of virtual gifts for tipping creators made TikTok the number two non-gaming app by consumer spending in the third quarter of this year. As per App Annie: "TikTok has seen sharp growth in active users by amassing a sizable global footprint in 2020 — nearly tripling in size since 2018. In 2021, we expect TikTok to not only achieve a coveted spot in the 1 Billion monthly active users club, but to sail straight past to 1.2 billion."
WhatsApp announced the launch of a new disappearing messages option last week. Here is their official announcement."When disappearing messages is turned on, new messages sent to a chat will disappear after seven days, helping the conversation feel lighter and more private. LinkedIn has acknowledged two measurement errors that led to "over-reporting" of video views and ad impressions on sponsored content campaigns. The issues were recorded for more than two years and affected more than 400 thousand advertisers, the company said. LinkedIn is issuing ad credits to advertisers who were overcharged.
Instagram is updating the app's navigation bar to Shopping and Reels. We think that this feature is intended to compete with rivals like TikTok. You will know see a Compose button and an Activity tab which was relocated to the top-right of the home screen. The center middle button now belongs to Reels.
Google (aka Youtube) announced big changes to its platform for Alcohol and Gambling Ads.
They are adding new user controls which limits the use of their tool to anyone running advertising related to gambling and alcohol. The new feature will launch first on YouTube in the U.S. and will then roll out to Google ads and other countries next year, the company said.
“We’ve heard feedback that some people would prefer to limit ads in certain categories like alcohol, so today, we’re launching a new control in Ad Settings, enabling people to see fewer alcohol ads, with gambling as an additional option,” Elijah Lawal of Google global communications and public affairs in a blog post.
